Class Description

SMIN 533 Program Design and Development in the Local Church. An introduction to and practice in designing and developing a youth ministry in the local church. Attention will be paid to context (i.e. urban, rural, suburban and geographic or regional characteristics), theology of youth ministry, and practical challenges such as fundraising, budgeting and accounting procedures. This class will teach the basics of what is needed to design and implement a sustainable model for youth ministry in the local church using Wesleyan theological and praxis distinctives. Development of a philosophy of youth ministry will be a primary goal. Care will be taken to address different contexts and types of local churches. All the basic 101 topics will be taught such as budgets, newsletters, Sunday school, UMYF, mission trips, events, retreats, staff relations, volunteers, and more. Credit 3 hours.
